Águilas is a municipality and seaport of Southeastern Spain, in the province of Murcia. It is situated at the southern end of Murcia's Mediterranean coastline, otherwise known as the Costa Cálida, near the border with the Province of Almería. It is perfectly located directly by the sea, with a beautiful port, lovely city and wonderful beaches. The official population is around 35,000 and it has 28 km of idyllic coastline with many beaches to choose from. The city consists of two bays; Bahía de Levante and Bahía del Hornillo. They are separated by a rocky landscape where the castle Castillo de San Juan is built. On a map, the two bays look like wings and form an eagle. Hence the name, Águila which means eagle. 

Águilas has an abundance of history, including the Romans and the English who had a large colony in the second half of the 1800s. There are many current buildings, infrastructure, municipal buildings and the Hornillo pier, from which ships exported minerals. This impressive architectural project for its time, built from iron and concrete. A railway leads all the way to the pier. However, it is no longer in use.

It is also known for its amazing carnival party. It is a lively place with the atmosphere of an international city. Long boulevards, harbour, beaches, good selection of both Spanish and international bars / beach bars and a large selection of restaurants.

The old town is partly built up against the mountain. Here are some amazingly beautifully painted stairs with special motifs. The square in front of the town hall is also cosy with traditional bars and restaurants. The infrastructure is impressive with fast train links from Murcia city, new motorways running both North and South, as well as West to Lorca. There is also a stunning selection of golf courses in the area, including Aguilón Golf. An exceptional area on Costa Cálida only 50 minutes from the Corvera (Murcia) or Almeria airports and 1h 40 minutes from Alicante airport.
